11/13/06: A note from the editor of MyKosherHome.com
While looking for a way to avoid returning to the 9-5 professional
world, our oldest son suggested I start my own business. And, I
knew just what I wanted to do – edit and publish a magazine for Jewish
women. Market research showed it was a great idea, but the buy-in
price was high. So the print magazine became a website –
MyKosherHome.com – and here we are!
Observant Jewish life is full of boundaries. We are familiar with
the Torah prescriptions and imperatives regarding all aspects of our
lives. But, we are also acutely aware of those boundaries which
are entirely incidental, and just seem to come with the
territory. While preparing a great recipe clipped from a
magazine, we can’t find a bottle of the essential ingredient with a
hekshur. It isn’t easy to find appropriate clothing for one’s
10-year-old daughter, if you live “out of town.” When and how can
we pack for and find a flight that leaves motzoi shabbos? How do we
organize and produce a simcha that is within our means but out of this
world? How do we adjust what happens in our homes and with our families
so that not just our kitchens, but our family life, relationships, and
conversations reflect the behavioral boundaries we also call kosher?
That is what mykosherhome.com is all about. That, and the pure
joy of being a Jewish woman. One of our features, SPOT THAT SALE, posts
readers’ reports: visit daily to see what is on sale in your city.
brisket? airfare? china? Find something on sale, buy what you need and
do the sisterly thing: post your find for the rest of us. We’ve
worked to make our articles easy to take in at a glance and nice to
look at, and our recipes simply described while highlighting the
essential step that makes the difference between success and failure.
Browse the articles, enjoy the photos, and share your own ideas.
