Pesach Chesed Tips
Four Easy Ways to Show Chesed During Pesach
1) Remember that Pesach groceries are so expensive, it can be a
hardship for many families. Everytime you reach a certain level
of spending, for instance, $300, purchase a $30 gift card from the
grocery store. Ten days before Pesach, give them to the Rav of your
shul and tell him to get them to families in the community who need
them. Or, donate to the Pesach assistance program in your community.
2) Invite an older person to your seder or a Pesach meal. Pesach can be
a lonely time for seniors who live away from their children. Think
about those your know or ask your Rav if there is someone you should
ask.
3) Hire someone to help you clean for Pesach. Surely someone you
know---a yeshiva bocher, a single mother, or someone unemployed in your
community---could use a little extra cash at this time of year. Make
him or her feel like they are doing you a favor to spend a Sunday
afternoon helping you take down the dishes or polish the silver or set
up the extra shelves, and that you'd rather they make the money than
someone you'd "have to" hire from the outside. Besides, maybe it
will also be a chesed to your husband's back if someone younger puts up
the shelves this year!
4) Baalei teshuva can be lonely during Pesach if their families do not
keep the chag. Invite them for a meal and make them feel good about the
choices they've made.
